Standalone License Quick Start Guide
Purchasing and Licensing Process
Online Activation Using the Web
1. Problem: License code is not accepted
Trial License or Normal License
Standalone License with No Expiration Date
A Standalone License permits the use of software applications on a single dedicated computer. License management is done on that computer, and every single installed application requires a separate license code for the computer that the software application is installed on.
Network Licensing is more flexible than Standalone Licensing. It allows you to designate one PC or server to run the Network License Server – a lightweight service that runs in the background and requires a network license code to manage licenses for client workstations. The number of available licenses (also known as seats) is encoded in the license code. License code is required only for the server. Applications communicate with a license server to acquire a license during startup and to check license status while application is running. If no license is available on a server, applications can search for open seats on other servers.
IMPORTANT: For Network License Server, please select a PC that is stable and is always available on the network. It can be any PC, but laptops or notebooks are not recommended. An operating system of Windows NT or later (2000, XP, 2003 Server) is recommended due to its support for Windows Services.
Applications (i.e. pcaMats, pcaSlab, etc.) can be installed on any client PC on the network.
Commuter license is an embedded feature of network license.

Figure 1: Network Licensing Typical Configuration
· Windows NT4 / 2000 / XP / 2003 Server (recommended)
· Windows 98 2nd Edition / ME (not recommended)
· For Windows Vista, see section Windows Vista of this guide
· 100 MHz processor
· 32 MB of RAM memory
· 50 MB of free hard disk space for program installation
· Local Area Network (LAN) supports TCP/IP or IPX protocol.
IMPORTANT: Applications require Rainbow SentinelLM 7.2.0 or higher. If you already have SentinelLM 7.2.0 or higher running on your designated server for other applications, you can skip step 1 and go directly to step 2. If you have SentinelLM 7.1.0 or prior on your server, then you either have to migrate existing licenses to SentinelLM 7.2.0 or you have to select another PC to run SentinelLM 7.2.0. Only one version of SentinelLM can run on a server.
By default, the StructurePoint software applications may be installed in either one of the following directories. Please act accordingly. This guide uses the first directory as an example.
C:\Program File\StructurePoint\
C:\Program File\PCA\
Step 1: Installing License Serve Software
1.1. Login as Administrator on your designated Server PC.
1.2. If SentinelLM 7.1.0 or earlier is installed on the server, uninstall it from Control Panel.
1.3. If you have StructurePoint CD, place it in the CD-ROM drive. Open Windows Explorer to browse CD-Drive:\License_Server directory. If you do not have the CD, download license server installation package from our website below. This is SentinelLM 7.2.0.23.
http://www.StructurePoint.org/ftparea/License_Server.exe.
1.4. Double click on file License_Server.exe.
1.5. Follow the steps in the installation wizard to install the license server. Do not change the default installation paths. This guide will refer to them.
Step 2: Obtaining Locking Code off License Server
2.1. Start Windows Explorer and go to the directory containing SentinelLM applications (C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Admin\Admin.net\Win32\). If you have an existing SentinelLM installed and you do not have this directory on hard drive (this is because the license server installation package may be customized by every software vender), search for the files mentioned in the following steps.
2.2. Double click on wechoid.exe.
2.3. The dialog box (Figure 2) will show up. Uncheck everything except Disk ID.
2.4. Write down the Locking Code. For example, the Locking Code on Figure 2 is 4-123AB (yours may be different). Also write down the IP Address or Host Name of the server for later use.

Figure 2: System Info Dialog Box
Step 3: Obtaining License Code
Our network licenses can support redundant licensing. If you need this feature please call us at 1-947-966-4357 (HELP). Please note that licenses generated by the following procedures online do not support this feature. For more information on redundant licensing, please refer to the SentinelLM System Administrator’s Guide located on your license server at C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Admin\Manual\SLM71sys.pdf.
3.1. Visit the online license generation page on our website. Click on the link below or copy and paste it into the address bar of your web browser then press Enter key.
http://www.structurepoint.org/licensing/license_profile.asp
3.2. On the first page (Figure 3), select the software to be licensed from the Please Select a Product drop-down list, and then select the I’d like to get license code for my network version radio button. Press Next button to go to the next step.

Figure 3: Online License Generation – Step 1
3.3. On the second page (Figure 4), enter your order number, serial number, and locking code. The order number and serial number can be found in the order confirmation e-mail that is sent to the purchaser when the order is placed. If you are not sure how to find the locking code, click on the Locking Code Example link. Press the Request License Code button to go to the next step.

Figure 4: Online License Generation – Step 2
3.4. On the third page (Figure 5), enter the required information. The domain name of requester’s email address must match that of the purchaser’s email address. Licensed City is the name of the city where the license code is to be issued. Optionally, the license code may be sent to any valid email address provided in the CC Email field. Press the Generate License Code button to generate and view the license code on screen.
3.5. Your license code will be shown on the next screen and sent to the requester’s email address (as well as to the CC email address, if provided).
If you have any difficulties to generate license online, please send an email to licensing@StructurePoint.org with the following information:
· Order Number (e.g. 50188)
· Serial Number (e.g. 1000888)
· Locking Code (e.g. 4-123AB)
· Product Name (e.g. pcaMats)
· Number of seats purchased (e.g. 3)
· Full Contact Info (Your Name, Company Name, Address, Phone Number)
We will then process your request and email you back the License Code.

Figure 5: Online License Generation – Step 3
Step 4: Configuring License Server
4.1. Run WlmAdmin.exe tool. This utility is by default installed in the C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Admin\Admin.NET\Win32 folder. Search for this file and open proper folder if SentinelLM is not installed in the default folder.

Figure 6: WlmAdmin – before license installation
4.2. On the left pane of the WlmAdmin window (Figure 6), click on the + sign in front of the Subnet Servers, and then click on the + sign in front of the name of the server (e.g. SentinelLM-Server, yours may be different). If any application features are already installed, they will be listed under the server name, otherwise, nothing is listed under the server name.
4.3. Right click on the server name, select Add Feature | From a String from the pop up menu (Figure 7).

Figure 7: Right click on the server name to show this pop up menu
4.4. On the Add Feature to Server dialog box (Figure 8), check the Add feature to server’s file check box. Copy the license code for one StructurePoint product (e.g. pcaMats) from the license code email, and then paste it into the License code text box. Leave the Distribution criteria text box empty. Press Add button to continue. If you receive any error message after pressing the Add button, refer to the Troubleshooting section at the end of this chapter.

Figure 8: Check the check box and copy/paste license code
4.5. Repeat step 3 and 4 to add all the StructurePoint software features one by one. After you are finished, all the features should be listed under the server name (Figure 9). The server has been configured successfully. Please note that the feature version on license server (e.g. 6.50) and your StructurePoint application version on client workstation (say 6.51) do not need to match exactly. This allows free updates to be installed without obtaining new license codes.

Figure 9: All the features are installed successfully
Step 5: Configuring Client Applications
IMPORTANT: This step must be repeated on every single client PC that will run StructurePoint applications (i.e. pcaMats, pcaSlab, etc.).
5.1. Login as Administrator on the client PC.
5.2. Install StructurePoint software (e.g. pcaMats, pcaSlab, etc.) For installation instructions refer to the Program Installation section of the Standalone License Quick Start Guide. In addition to the software that you have purchased licenses for, please feel free to install all the other software too. User of the client workstation will be able to run them in fully functional evaluation mode for 15 days.
IMPORTANT: If you purchased and installed the software before October 1, 2003, you may have a version that is not compatible with the network license server. Please visit http://www.StructurePoint.org to download the latest version.
5.3. On client PC, open Windows Explorer and go to client application directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\StructurePoint\pcaMats\).
5.4. Use a text editor (e.g. Notepad) to open file named lshost.txt in this client application directory. Delete any text that may be present (e.g. no-net), and type in the license server IP address in the first line. For example, if the Network License Server is running on a PC with an IP address of 192.168.1.188 as shown in Figure 9, just type in 192.168.1.188 in the first line. Save and close this file.
TIP 1: You may enter multiple IP addresses (each in a separate line) in the lshost.txt file to specify additional license servers. This will force the application to search for an available license seat starting from the server specified in the first line and subsequently moving to the next specified server if there is no license available on the current server.
TIP 2: If you prefer that applications detect license server automatically, you can use LAN keyword in a single line in the lshost.txt file. This will force the application to broadcast the request for license through out the subnet, which may cause the startup time longer. Please note that the broadcasting is performed only in the subnet where client computer is located. If client computer and license server are located in different subnets, server IP address must be used.
The configuration is complete. Now you are ready to use the application. Congratulations!
When verifying your server status by running application WlmAdmin.exe (located in C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Admin\Admin.net\Win32) and your server is not listed after expanding the Subnet Server then follow the procedures shown below.
a. If the license server computer is running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows 2003 Server it may be necessary to set up an exception in Windows Firewall. Open Control Panel and check the status of the Windows firewall. If the status is On, add an exception for UDP port 5093 (Figure 10). Open this port if it is blocked by any other active firewall software running on the server.

Figure 10: Windows Firewall
b. If the license server configuration described above does not work, alternatively you may follow the steps below to restart the license server.
For Windows NT or later: Go to Windows Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools, then double click on Services. A service named SentinelLM should be listed there (See Figure 11). If its status is Stopped, right click on it and select Start from the pop-up menu. If its status is Started, restart it by clicking on Restart from the pop-up menu.

Figure 11: SentinelLM Service on License Server
For Win 9x: If license server is running, a separate window will display with the message “License Server Running”. Close this window to stop the license server. Open Windows Explorer and go to directory C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies \SentinelLM7.2.0.23 Server\ English\. Double click on lserv9x.exe to restart the License Server.
SentinelLM: Error [19]: Failed to add license code
This error is because the license code entered is incorrect or incomplete. Make sure you copy and paste the proper and the entire license code from license email, and then try again. If error persists, follow the procedures shown below to add the license code manually.
a. Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder where lservrc file is located. The default path to this file is C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\SentinelLM 7.2.0.23 Server\English\. Make sure the first character of the file name is “l” (for library), not “I” (for International) or “1” (one).
b. If you have multiple license codes in lservrc file, make sure there is only one license code per line. If you need to append a new license code to an existing lservrc file, make sure the new license code is put in a new line. You may need to uncheck Word Wrap in notepad Format menu as shown in Figure 12.

Figure 12: Uncheck Word Wrap in Notepad
c. The lservrc file must NOT have any extension. It is a common mistake that a “.txt” is appended to this name. By default, Windows Explorer hides all the known extensions including “.txt”. To turn off this feature of Windows Explorer, click on Folder Options in the Tools menu, select View tab, and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types as shown in Figure 13.

Figure 13: Show Extensions for Known Types in Windows Explorer
d. The service SentinelLM must be restarted (refer to Problem 1, part b) or simply reboot the server after license code is entered into lservrc file.
a. Service SentinelLM must be restarted (refer to Problem 1, part b) or server must be rebooted after license code is entered into lservrc file.
b. Make sure the license server is running properly by checking the WlmAdmin.exe tool. Make sure correct feature name and version are listed under the server name (see Figure 9).
c. Verify that correct version of the software is installed on the client workstation. Make sure the version of the application on client computer is supported by the version of the license installed on the license server. Please refer to http://www.structurepoint.org/update/index.asp for details.
d. Open Windows Explorer, and then go to StructurePoint software folder. For example, the default path for pcaMats is C:\Program Files\StructurePoint\pcaMats. Double click to open lshost.txt. Make sure the IP address or name of the license server is in this file. IP address is preferred than server name because occasionally server name does not work depending on your DNS settings. If this file is empty, the client application (e.g. pcaMats) will try to locate the license server by broadcasting in the subnet. If the license server and client are in different subnets, IP address of the license server must be entered in the lshost.txt file on the client computer.
For other network license related issues, please refer to the FAQ – Network License section on our website at http://www.structurepoint.org/support_faq_network_license.asp.
When StructurePoint software is closed on a client workstation, the license that was held by the workstation is released and becomes available to be used by other client workstations. In case the license is not released automatically, you may try one or all of the followings.
· Restart the SentinelLM service (see Problem 1 part b).
· Reboot the license server.
The followings are for standalone license only. If you are installing a network license, please read chapter Network License Quick Start Guide.
This guide applies to pcaColumn, pcaSlab, pcaBeam, pcaMats, and pcaWall since the installations procedures are identical. The following guide uses pcaMats as an example. For installation of pcaFrame please download pcaFrame Installation Quick Start Guide from www.StructurePoint.org.

IMPORTANT: The following information is for standalone license only. If you have a network license and are installing the software on client workstations, please refer to Step 5: Configuring Client Applications in chapter Network License Quick Start Guide.
Standalone license is the default mode of licensing. In
this licensing scheme, users are granted 15 days to use our full-featured
software in evaluation mode. The only visible difference between the
evaluation version and the licensed version is an additional start-up dialog
box shown in Figure 28. It gives a choice of
buying/licensing the software, entering the activation code or running the
application in the evaluation mode by pressing the
button.
When the evaluation period expires the user will either obtain a License, or
uninstall the application.
Note: Any tampering with system clock or evaluation license file will render the software useless.
Figure 28: Start-up Dialog Box
You may purchase a license online on our web site at www.StructurePoint.org or by calling our sales team at 1-847-966-4357 (HELP). To buy online you may press the Online Licensing button, which will direct you to our website where you will be able to complete the transaction.
After the purchase is completed, StructurePoint will generate a unique License Code based on the product ID and the locking code derived from the unique hardware-id of the user’s computer. This unique hardware-id is called locking code. This implies that the license code will not work on any other PC. You can transfer the license to another PC by contacting StructurePoint for the transfer fees and procedures. There are 3 ways you can obtain a license code: Online, E-mail, or Phone.
You will need your purchase order number, product serial number, and the locking code. The first two are found in the order confirmation e-mail sent to the purchaser by StructurePoint.
1. Obtaining Locking Code
Press the
button
in the start-up dialog box (Figure 28). This
will bring up a window as in Figure 29, which
shows three license activation methods.

Figure 29: License activation methods
Select Enter a License Code and then press
the
button.
A window (Figure 30) will pop up where you
will be able to see the Locking Code (4-2666F in example Figure 30,
yours may be different). Write down the locking code and press back twice to
return to Figure 28.

Please select the 2nd option and press Next. Then you will be prompted to enter your purchase order number, serial number, and locking code (Step 2, Figure 31). Please enter these numbers carefully. Then you will be prompted for a valid e-mail address (Step 3, Figure 31).The domain name of the requester’s e-mail address must match that of the purchaser’s e-mail address. Once you have successfully generated a license code, please copy and paste it to the License Code text box on the activation window (Figure 30). Then press Next.

Figure 31: Online Licensing
If the entered code is correct the license will
be activated and window as in Figure 32 will
show. When you press the
button
the license activation will be completed. If you encounter any error
messages please refer to the Troubleshooting section of this guide.
Please note that the license version and your software version do not need to match exactly. This allows free updates to be installed without obtaining new license codes.

Figure 32: Activation completion
If the telephone method was chosen, the following screen appears (Figure 33). It shows the product ID and your locking code. This information is needed when you make a phone call at 1-847-966-4357 (HELP) to obtain the license. You will be asked to provide information about yourself in order to verify that you have purchased the license.

Figure 33: Activation by phone
After your information is verified, your license
code will be generated and provided to you via an e-mail. After you receive
the e-mail, copy and paste the license code into the License Code
text box and press the
button.
Since the license code is usually long, typing it into the License Code
text box is not recommended. If the entered code is correct, the license
will be activated and window as in Figure 32
will show. When you press the
button
the license activation will be completed. If you encounter any error
messages please refer to the Troubleshooting section of this guide.
If the E-mail method was chosen to activate the
license a screen (Figure 34) will show
prompting you to provide information about yourself. After you type in all
the information press the
button
and it will be automatically e-mailed to us together with the product ID and
your Locking Code. After the information is verified your license code will
be generated and e-mailed back to you.
Notes: Occasionally this e-mailing functionality does not work depending on the e-mail settings on your computers. If you have any difficulties sending the e-mail please call us at 1-847-966-4357 (HELP) or e-mail us manually at licensing@StructurePoint.org.

Figure 34: Activation by e-mail
After you receive it you may enter it by pressing
the
button
in the start up dialog box (Figure 28) and
choosing Enter License Code option. If the entered code is correct,

After you copy and paste the license code into the License Code text box and press the Next button, an error message, such as Error [17], pops up informing that the license code cannot be added. There are two solutions to this issue.
Solution 1: Add license code to the lservrc file manually
a. Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder where lservrc file is located. The default path to this file is C:\Program Files\StructurePoint\pcaMats. Make sure the first character of the file name is “l” (for library), not “I” (for International) or “1” (one).
b. Uncheck the Word Wrap in the Notepad Format menu as shown in Figure 35. There should already be one line of text in this file. It is the trial license. Go to the beginning of the second line and paste the license code there. You should have a total of two lines of text.
If you have multiple license codes in lservrc file, make sure there is only one license code per line. If you need to append a new license code to an existing lservrc file, make sure the new license code is put in a new line.

Figure 35: Uncheck Word Wrap in Notepad
c. The lservrc file must NOT have any extension. It is a common mistake that a “.txt” is appended to this name. By default, Windows Explorer hides all the known extensions including “.txt”. To turn off this feature of Windows Explorer, click on Folder Options in the Tools menu, select View tab, and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types as shown in Figure 36.

Figure 36: Show Extensions for Known Types in Windows Explorer
Solution 2: Set environment variable LSFORCEHOST to no-net
To add a standalone license, set the environment variable LSFORCEHOST to no-net. To add an environment variable, follow the steps below (assuming Windows XP).
a. Open Windows Control Panel, and then double click on System.
b. Click on the Advanced tab on the System Properties box (Figure 37), and then press the Environment Variables button.

Figure 37: System Properties box
c. In the System Variables group box (Figure 38), look for a variable named LSFORCEHOST. If the variable already exists, press the Edit button, and then change the Value to no-net. If the variable does not exist, press the New button.

Figure 38: Environment Variables box
d. On the New System Variable dialog box (Figure 39), enter the variable name and value as shown below, and then press the OK button.

Figure 39: New System Variable box
e. Press the OK button on the Environment Variables dialog box. Depending on the operation system, the computer may be required to reboot in order for the new environment variable to be effective.
SentinelLM 7.2.0.23 does not formally support Windows Vista. We have tested this version of SentinelLM on Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. The following is provided to you for reference only in case you have to use a Windows Vista PC with a trial license, normal license (i.e. a standalone license with an expiration date), standalone license, or network license.
If you are evaluating StructurePoint software with a trial license, or if you have a normal license (i.e. a standalone license with an expiration date), StructurePoint software must be started as administrator. For example, select path Windows Start | All Programs | StructurePoint | pcaMats, right click on pcaMats, and then select Run as administrator from the pop-up menu as shown in Figure 40.

Figure 40 Run as administrator on Windows Vista
To activate StructurePoint software by entering the license code (e-mailed to you) into the license activator, administrator privileges are required and the software must be started as an administrator as shown above in Figure 40. Once the software is activated successfully, however, administrator privileges are not required to run the software.
After SentinelLM is installed on license server, follow the steps below to create an exception (UDP port 5093) in Windows Firewall.
1. Open Control Panel.
