2.22Rigid-End Offsets
In general, ignoring the finite dimensions of structural members may result in overestimation of deflections and underestimation of member end force. Rigid-end offsets of a member may be included by inputting the half-widths of the member supports (See Figure 2-21). These half-widths of the supports are taken into consideration when calculating the clear span. The portion of a member within the wide support is considered infinitely rigid. The results of a member with rigid-end offsets are output at the face of the designated supports (rather than at the end joints).
